For the purposes of this web site, the varying LHS curriculum programs can be roughly classified as follows:

Units are defined as science and/or mathematics activities or lessons that focus on one main topic and can be anywhere from one class session to about ten class sessions, or not extending for more than two weeks. The GEMS Unit Bubble-ology is an example.

Modules are defined as of somewhat longer duration, up to about six-eight weeks, or about one-third of a semester. While units can go into a topic or several topics in some depth, modules would allow greater depth and investigation of a wider range of content. The FOSS Earth History module is an example.

Courses are defined as being whole-semester or full-year programs of study. A number of new Hall curricula for high school are in this latter category, such as the SEPUP Issues, Evidence, and You program.
