Alan Gould has worked at LHS since 1974, starting out as a part-time planetarium show presenter at the Holt Planetarium, known for its innovative audience-participation planetarium shows. Since then, his role has increased to include teaching school workshops and courses, teacher education workshops, and curriculum development. He is the Director of Holt Planetarium and Planetarium Activities for Student Success (PASS). He is an author in the Great Explorations in Math and Science (GEMS) Program and coordinator of the GEMS Commercial Kit effort in concert with Sargent Welch. Gould is Co-Director of the Hands-On Universe (HOU) project, which enables teachers and students to request telescope images via the Internet and analyze the images with HOU image-processing software. He is Director of Global Systems Science (GSS), an integrated interdisciplinary issues-oriented high school curriculum that has student books and teacher guides downloadable from the GSS Website. He has authored or co-authored many works, including Planetarium Activities for Student Success (PASS); GEMS teacher guides Convection: A Current Event, Color Analyzers, Height-O-Meters, Hot Water and Warm Homes from Sunlight, The "Magic" of Electricity, Moons of Jupiter, More Than Magnifiers, The Wizard's Lab, and The Real Reasons for Seasons; and Global Systems Science (GSS) books Energy Use and Energy Flow. |
