January 2005. Hometown
Solar Show. By Regina Johnson. Solar
today, Jan-Feb 2005, p. 27 The
public explores installations in their own
neighborhoods on the National Solar Tour.
An estimated 50,000 attendees toured homes
and businesses on the American Solar Energy
Society's (ASES) ninth annual National Solar
Tour, which took place in most locations
Saturday, Oct. 2. Each year, the tour offers
an opportunity for people all over the United
States to see firsthand how their neighbors
are using pollution-free renewable energy
to provide sustainable heating, domestic
hot water and electricity.... The 2005 tour,
slated for Oct. 1, promises to be even more
successful. This year, an online database
of solar equipment vendors and installers
organized by region will complement the
tour. With the click of a mouse at the ASES
website [http://www.ases.org],
tour-goers will have immediate access to
information and services from solar professionals
in their own backyards.
January 2005. Building
Green, by Alex Wilson, Solar Today,
Jan-Feb 2005. The
green building movement, which emerged in
the late 1980s and early '90s, is built
on the solar movement but takes a decidedly
broader view. Yes, we want to create low-energy
buildings heated and powered by sunlight,
but we also want to satisfy these other
concerns to address much broader environmental
priorities. Thus emerged interest in green
building materials. |
