GEMS Professional Development
The following Professional Development sessions are open for registration. You can also contact us as indicated below if you are interested in custom workshops.
- GEMS Associates Professional Development, at LHS: These sessions are geared to educators who are actively providing GEMS professional development to teachers, or who want to become more active in helping others implement inquiry science curriculum using GEMS. Summer session is scheduled for July 22-24, 2009. Winter session is scheduled for February 8–10, 2010. See here for registration information and details.
- Seeds of Science/Roots of Reading® Professional Development, July 27–29, 2009, at LHS: Gain first-hand experience with activities from the new Seeds of Science/Roots of Reading program and learn about the benefits of integrating science and literacy instruction. - ATLSS: The goal of this program is to provide high quality training for teachers around the country who want to know how to successfully implement the GEMS Space Science Sequences for Grades 3-5 and Grades 6-8. Would you like to participate in an ATLSS workshop? Each participating institution will be offering a 2-day workshop. Please contact the site of interest directly to ask about attending a session. Each session will include GEMS staff as well as educators at the local site. The schedule of trainings and their locations is outlined here.
- After School KidzScience (ASKS), April 26 & 27, 2010: After School KidzScience (ASKS) workshops introduce After School leaders to the use of ASKS easy and fun activities designed for 3–5 graders. Learn how to engage, explore, and make sense of the activities that comprise the Physical Science series of kits: Magnets, Bubbles, Falling & Flying, and Oobleck. Participants will be introduced to all the ASKS 45-minute long sessions. Special attention will be paid to techniques for fostering an inventive, creative, and safe approach to science after school.
