Daily live demonstrations at
12:00 noon and at 2:00 p.m. |
Think of the smallest thing you can make — A tiny paper airplane? A knot in a string? Now think of making something millions of times smaller. That's what nanotechnology is about.
Nanotechnology
scientists move around atoms and molecules to make amazing
new devices. Imagine super-tape as sticky as a
gecko's toes, tiny
medical
devices that can detect disease in seconds, or mini-gadgets powered
by solar cells in your clothes.
Nanotechnology is used in many industries. Someday it could affect almost every part of our lives.
Developed by Lawrence Hall of Science, this permanent exhibit is one of the first anywhere to explore cutting-edge nanotech developments, and introduce the scientists on the nanotech forefront.
What can you do in the nanoZone?

Measure
Yourself
in Nanometers
How tall are you in nanometers? You won't believe your size!
Zoom
In
Examine a bee’s body parts, blue jeans, pollen, and an ultrasmall
medical device that could someday save lives — all up close and personal!
Use our simulated scanning electron microscope to zoom in to a world you’ve
never seen before!
Find
out Who’s Who
in the nanoZone
Ever wonder what scientists were like as children? They were a lot like you!
Hear the childhood stories of four leading nanotechnology scientists and find
out how they discovered the science they love.
At
the nanoZone
Activity Station
Make and take home a size wheel to learn about different scales of measurement.
Get a really close look at amazingly small things such as viruses, blood cells,
and more. Watch and listen to exciting demonstrations on nanotech devices that
may help you and your family in the future!
What
in the World Is It?
Test your nanoscale knowledge by identifying familiar objects photographed
under high-powered microscopes.
Save
Ratty
Poor Ratty's
cells aren’t working right. Have computer-game fun as you use
nanotechnology to save him.
Solve The Case of the Green Milk!
Yuk! Some cows on Farmer Darrell's
farm are giving green
milk. Use nanotech in a computer-game setting to sleuth out which
cows are the culprits.
