Our Assessment Services

The assessment team within REA offers expertise in all aspects of the design and use of subject-matter specific assessments, including item, scale, and test development, classroom implementation, data management, data analysis, reporting, and revision of measures.  We provide assessment services to instructional materials development projects within the Lawrence Hall of Science and for other organizations.  These services include the following:

  • Assessment materials design and development
  • Test materials printing, distribution and collection
  • Document handling and response scanning
  • Scoring of constructed response and open-ended items
  • Data analysis and psychometrics
  • Reporting
  • Dissemination

REA staff members have experience designing and analyzing student and teacher learning assessments for a variety of project types: curriculum-embedded assessments, student pre-post learning assessments, assessment validation studies, and program efficacy studies.  Our approach involves a principled assessment design, which focuses on a match between client measurement needs, the instrument and the types of questions that should be asked.

Our assessment staff offers expertise in the design and implementation of assessments that measure the breadth and depth of knowledge and skills.  The REA assessment team has experience at all levels of education from K-16, in numerous types of learning environments, and with students and teachers. Although our primary experience is with STEM content, we also have experience in the integration of science and literacy, and issue-oriented science.
