East Bay Academy for Young Scientists (EBAYS)
EBAYS provides opportunities for students in grades four through 12 to engage in high-quality science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) activities after school at programs serving numerous sites throughout the East San Francisco. EBAYS uses inquiry-oriented activities thematically linked by standards-aligned concepts, which promote conceptual understanding of the fundamental processes and integrative nature of 21st Century scientific investigation. Coupled with these activities are student research experiences that enable participants to apply new conceptual understandings as they collect, organize, and analyze data they use to investigate the environmental, health, cultural, and socio-economic issues affecting their communities.
Together these activities foster changes in student perceptions of STEM that can lead participants to begin seeing themselves as “scientists,” and encourage development of confidence needed to pursue STEM-related educational endeavors and careers. EBAYS may be able to customize an offering that meets the needs of your program or community.

LHS After school Curriculum
The Lawrence Hall of Science (LHS) has developed compelling hands-on science curriculum that can easily be integrated into your after school program. Developed by LHS’s GEMS program and published by Developmental Studies Center, AfterSchool KidzScience consists of a series of innovative units that provide a complete solution for programs looking to add a science component to their offerings. Each kit focuses on a general science area (physical science, environmental science, forensics, etc.) and provides four topics within that area that are addressed with four sessions each. The materials have been tested in after school settings and are designed to assure that they are easily presented by program staff with little or no science or education background.
